This week grade 1 students are going to share with their friends their knowledge of ants!
In class we read a non-fiction book about ants and students learned a lot of facts. Then each student picked three facts that they thought were interesting and drew pictures of those facts on a graphic organizer.
Today your child is bringing home that organizer so that he/she can practice sharing the facts with an audience. Here are some tips for helping kids to be prepared.
Have fun with this. We’ll begin presentations on Monday, Jan. 18.
Many thanks

In class we read a non-fiction book about ants and students learned a lot of facts. Then each student picked three facts that they thought were interesting and drew pictures of those facts on a graphic organizer.
Today your child is bringing home that organizer so that he/she can practice sharing the facts with an audience. Here are some tips for helping kids to be prepared.
- There needs to be a short introduction. It could be as simple as, “I’m going to tell you three facts about ants.” Or it could be longer like, “We read a book about ants and I sure did learn a lot. I’m going to share some of those facts with you.”
- Then the student will say, “The first fact is……….” “The second fact is………” and the third fact is ……..”
- They should add details and tell us everything they know about the facts they’re sharing.
- Then they need a little ending like, “I hope I taught you a lot about ants!”
- Speak in a loud voice. (This is difficult for some kids. Have them practice yelling their presentation at home.)
- Make eye contact with the audience. They should only need to look at their organizer briefly and then look up at the audience.
Have fun with this. We’ll begin presentations on Monday, Jan. 18.
