We've been working on short vowel sounds in English. It's important that kids know these sounds and can read and write them in words like:
a: hat, dad, pan, rack, sand, pad, nap, man, lap, sat, bag, van, pant,
e: set, let, men, fed, bed, dent, get, hen, jet, nest, peg, red, wet
i: sit, pin, dip, flip, mill, pin, rib, fin, dig, win,
o: pop, dog, rob, shot, cost, fog, lot, pot, stop,
u: dug, sun, bug, run, hut, tug, bun, jug, cup, rug
You can help at home by doing some of the following:
Remember to make it fun. Try writing on a white board (you can get them at the dollar store) or a black board if you have one. You can use markers or crayons or anything else that writes. Work on it every evening, but only for a few minutes.

You can help at home by doing some of the following:
- Say a word like "pet" (or one of the other words in the list above) and have your child tell you which vowel sound they hear.
- Write some short vowel words and have your child read them.
- Say some of these words and have your child write them.
