Today we discussed the importance of establishing a routine for reading at home. Most students said they enjoy reading, but many admitted that they don’t read at home on a regular basis. Together we created a list of tricks that might help.
Some students are bringing home leveled books and others have confirmed they have reading materials at home. Leveled books are effective because they’re the perfect level of difficulty for each child.
Students’ homework is to record the name of the book and the length of time they spent reading on the calendar. I’ll collect the calendars on Friday, January 15.
Have fun! Reading with your child is one the most important activities you can do to help guarantee academic success.
- Read at the same time each evening.
- Set a timer to read for 10 or 15 minutes.
- Plan ahead on busy nights and make time to read.
- Read at the arena or the dance studio if when waiting for siblings.
- Pick a book that’s not too difficult and not too easy.
