You will find attached a list of “Need to Know” words. We call these “Need to Know” words because they are the most common words used in the English language. Levels 1 and 2 are a review from last year and level 3 is new. For some kids these words will be very easy to read, and for others there may be just a few words that they need to practice. Some kids will need to work harder to learn these words.

- Cut them out and make them into flashcards.
- Read them out loud until they know them with no hesitation.
- Shuffle them and read them again.
If that’s too easy they can:
- Spell them (out loud, on a white board, with cut out letters , with markers or with chalk)
- Arrange the flashcards to make a simple sentence. (Ex: That cat is big.)
- Write rhyming words, even if some of them are silly. (like, bike, pike, nike, rike, jike)
- Use the words to write sentences and add their own words.
