This week grade 1 students are going to become storytellers!
Your child has brought home a Clifford book or a Little Critter book for you to share. Parents will need to read it to their child a few time before they will be ready to practice retelling it. Here are some suggestions.
Have fun with this! We’ve done it at school several times, so kids should have pretty good idea what to do. We’ll start presentations next Monday, so you have a few days to get organized. Please call or send me a note if you have any questions.
Your child has brought home a Clifford book or a Little Critter book for you to share. Parents will need to read it to their child a few time before they will be ready to practice retelling it. Here are some suggestions.
- Remind your child to only include the important parts, and maybe a few funny parts. We don’t need to know everything that happens in the book
- Have your child practice retelling the story out loud to an audience.
- It’s okay to use the book the first few times they practice, but by the time they present at school they should be able to do it without the book.
- Practice retelling the story many times during the next week, so that your child is confident and ready to present to the class.
- Tell the story in their own words. They should not be attempting to memorize it.
- Speak loudly
- Change their voices to make the story more interesting
- Look at their audience
